Care symbols made simple
In brief: Five symbols explain how to care for your garment: washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional cleaning. A crossed-out symbol always means: do not.
The five basic symbols
Washing – the tub
- The number shows the maximum temperature in °C.
- One bar underneath: gentle cycle. Two bars: wool cycle.
- A hand in the tub: hand wash only.
- Crossed out: do not wash.
Bleaching – the triangle
- Empty triangle: bleaching allowed.
- Two diagonal lines: oxygen bleach only, no chlorine.
- Crossed out: do not bleach.
Drying – the square
- With a circle: tumble drying allowed. One dot: low temperature; two dots: normal temperature.
- Crossed out: do not tumble dry.
- Lines in the square: air dry – vertical for hanging, horizontal for drying flat.
Ironing – the iron
- One dot: up to about 110 °C, for example silk and many synthetics.
- Two dots: up to about 150 °C, for example wool and polyester.
- Three dots: up to about 200 °C, for example cotton and linen.
- Crossed out: do not iron.
Professional care – the circle
- P or F: dry cleaning possible.
- W: professional wet cleaning possible.
- One bar underneath: gentle process.
- Crossed out: do not dry clean.
Good to know
“Do not wash” does not mean “do not clean”
If the wash tub is crossed out, professional cleaning is often still possible. The circle on the label indicates the suitable process.
No label left?
Just bring the garment in. We will look at the fabric and construction together with you.
When unsure, choose a lower temperature
A temperature that is too low rarely causes harm; one that is too high can shrink or discolour fabrics.
How REGIO can help
At drop-off, we check the material and care label with you and choose the suitable process. If the label is missing, we examine the item in the shop.
